This last year has contributed to significant challenges for many of us in staying well. We know that getting outside is good, but having others to motivate us can help make this happen, and that has been heavily restricted. When we are doing something we enjoy, such as learning about the local plants and wildlife, practising a new skill or activity, or getting guidance to practice mindfulness, there is a greater reason to get our coats on and step out.
EcoWild is one of the local organisations delivering nature and health approaches in the Somer Valley from the 1st March as part of the Somer Valley Rediscovered project. Also providing vital support for people towards optimum health are Roots Connection (at Manor Farm in Stratton-on-the-Fosse), Creativity Works, The Community Farm at Chew, Sporting Family Change and Bath Mind.
We will maintain social distance, and follow the Government guidelines that state: ‘Support groups that have to be delivered in person can continue with up to fifteen participants where formally organised to provide mutual aid, therapy or any other form of support – but they must take place at a premises other than a private home.’
Emily from EcoWild says: “Our woodlands, parks and Community Farms are the place to recover and support each other, and we want people to feel a really great impact from this. However, having been cut off from others and from daily life for so long, there are many who may feel nervous to step into something new. Anyone who is unsure can get in touch to ask questions or have a 1:1 meeting before coming to a group session.”
Participants can enjoy foraging walks, gentle stretching, mindfulness and creative practices at various locations locally – all for free. The Midsomer Norton Town Park session also includes an introduction to Nordic Walking.
Please see the advert for dates and locations of the various courses. Numbers will be small, so please let organisers know if you are unable to attend, so that your space can be refilled for anyone waiting.
