Children at St Julian’s School in Wellow have held a special Carols by Candlelight event.

Held outside, at the end of the school day, children packed out the playground to usher in the Christmas

season.

Carols by Candlelight is a long-practiced tradition in the Christian church where familiar yuletide hymns are sang for all to enjoy.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “What a lovely way to end the year before the Christmas break, with all the schoolchildren together singing carols lit up by candlelight.

“All the children came wrapped up warm and a collection was taken for The Children’s Society at the event with some warm refreshments served, too.”

£161 was raised for the Children’s Society, a national charity that helps to alleviate poverty in poorer communities and campaigns for better services and opportunities for children and young people.

Events at the school over the Christmas season have also raised: £68.75 on Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children and £231.09 in the Christingle collection boxes, which were also for the Children’s Society.
