A TEACHER is returning to the school where he started his education to be its new deputy head teacher.

Mr Matthew Brinkworth started his new position on Tuesday, September 2, marking the beginning of the new school year.

He previously attended Farmborough Church Primary School as a pupil from 1995 to 2002.

The school has 157 pupils come through its doors, while children’s author Dick King-Smith, best known for ‘The Sheep-Pig’, is among its former teachers.

In its OFSTED inspection in November 2024, the school was praised for its curriculum and caring relationships.

Mr Brinkworth was previously teaching at Weston All Saints Primary School before moving to Farmborough. Both schools are supported by The Partnership Trust, a Radstock-based multi-academy trust of primary, first, and special schools across North East Somerset.

Mr Brinkworth said: “I am absolutely delighted to have joined the Farmborough community as deputy headteacher and class teacher.

“It is a real privilege to be returning to a school that played such a formative role in my own education - having been a student here myself, I know first-hand what a special place Farmborough is.”

Darren Roberts, headteacher at Farmborough Church Primary School, said: “We’re thrilled that Matthew is once again a part of the Farmborough Church Primary School community and this time as a member of staff.

“His journey from pupil to deputy headteacher has equipped him with a wealth of experience and skills and we’re very happy to be welcoming him back to our amazing school.”

Emily Massey, CEO of The Partnership Trust, added: “Congratulations to Matthew on his appointment as deputy headteacher at Farmborough. We’re thrilled that he is remaining within The Partnership Trust.

“One of the great benefits of being part of a multi-academy trust is supporting, and watching, colleagues develop their careers and progress within our family of schools.”
