Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Tim Farron, visited students at Bath College last Tuesday, 16th May.

The timetable for the day was a short business meeting in the college’s Shrubbery Restaurant with local businesses and the two local prospective parliamentary candidates, Manda Rigby for North East Somerset and Wera Hobhouse for Bath, followed by a tour of the media suite and engineering workshop. This was part of the Liberal Democrats’ announcement for a start-up allowance for new businesses.

Ed Powell, course leader for Creative Media Production at Bath College, said: “It’s great to have Tim come in and recognise some of the great work students have been doing this year on their final major projects. They have produced some high-quality content, and this visit is a testament to all the effort they have put in.

“Being based in the South West, the media sector is one of the biggest contributors to the economy, which is why it’s essential that students are learning to use industry software and developing transferrable skills, so that they can go into the creative industry.”Creative Media Production student, Charlotte Nind, said: “I wasn’t expecting there to be so many cameras, but it was nice to be part of the visit and to show off what we had done. I’ve really enjoyed my first year here. It’s been a lot more practical and I’ve made lots of short films to add to my portfolio. I’m looking forward to next year, when we can specialise and I’ll be focusing on film.”
