B&NES Council is set to decide on whether to close the last two remaining nurseries under its control this month.
Both are in the grounds of local Primary Schools, one at Radstock in St Nicholas’ Primary School, and the other in Bath, at the St Martin’s Garden site.
Both of the schools have confirmed that it would be too costly to take on the running of the nurseries, and B&NES is now proposing to close the nurseries, which currently employ 26 people, with 24 likely to be made redundant.
Should closure be approved, the Council will then have to look at what to do with the existing buildings. In January 2017, it closed two nursery buildings in Midsomer Norton and Keynsham.
The last two nurseries are large for the area, but the Council says are uneconomical to run, with both currently below numbers and running at a loss.
Currently 55 pre-school children attend the Radstock Nursery and 40 attend St Martin’s Garden.
