A local Yarn Bomber group, based at the Methodist Church in High Littleton, have taken to the villages of Hallatrow and High Littleton this summer to spread a two-mile-long trail full of colour and cheer, this year with the theme of ‘Transportation and Motion’.

The group, who started the annual yarn bombing seven years ago following a lot of expressed interest, have spent the year readying their impressive yarn creations to promote the High Littleton Village Day, on Saturday, 26th August from 12pm.

There was an overall entry of twenty six in this year’s trail, with most of those being from the village’s Yarn Bombing group, where there are as many as ten members who meet on a Saturday afternoon in High Littleton Scout Hall.

Yarnbomber and organiser of the trail, Sandra Roberts, told The Journal: “I am not sure how many entries we have had as yet as it has only been going for about ten days but I have seen lots of people wandering around with children with clipboards so hopefully we will get a good entry.

“It is just about enjoying it all.

“The trail is A-Z so there are twenty six different clues in all for people to find and answer. Clue twenty five is a submarine called Gay Highlander, based on the submarine attempt by Douglas Price from Temple Cloud in 1968.

“The trail will be up until the beginning of September but entries need to be in the collection box no later than Friday, 25th August so that winners can be drawn at High Littleton Village Day.”

As well as hosting their annual A-Z trail in High Littleton, the group also yarn their creations for charity. In previous years, the dedicated bunch have knitted scarves and hats for the homeless in Bath, crocheted baby hats for the RUH and every year, come together to cover the Church with poppies for Remembrance Day.

The fun-filled yarn trail competition finishes on Friday, 25th August. If you would like to take part, you can pick-up a form from the giraffe, opposite the Methodist Church in High Littleton.

All you need to do is fill in what you think each letter represents.

All participants with the most correct answers will have their names put into a hat with the chance to win £25 courtesy of the Parish Council. Runners up will receive £15 and third place will receive £10.

The next Yarnbombing meeting is on Saturday, 9th September from 2-4.30pm. If you have visited the trail and liked what you saw, why not join them to see what they get up to?

The group are deciding on next year’s theme and would love to hear any ideas you have. What would you like to see yarn-bombed in your village?
