After a gap of two years, Paulton Amateur Dramatic Society has made a triumphant return with the Pantomime, ‘Robin Hood’ which played to packed and enthusiastic audiences over four performances.
The Production was cleverly written and produced by PADs member, Clare Ivory and successfully directed by Austin Stephens. Cast members included a feisty Marian, who, in a clever twist of the tale, took a timid Robin in hand and turned him into a successful outlaw, along with his very Merry Men, many of whom had never acted before, and including a very comical Friar Tuck.
The villain of the piece was, of course, the Sheriff of Nottingham, a truly convincing baddy who got lots of boos from the audience, supported by his three bumbling Henchmen who produced lots of laughter from everyone. Other notable performances were Maid Marion’s Nursemaid, who thrilled the audiences with his amazing singing voice and King Richard who made a timely return from the Crusades.
Great technical backup by Dave Wilcox, resulting in catchy music and clever lighting, along with his helpers, made for a great atmosphere throughout.
Many thanks to the Red Lion in Paulton for donating rehearsal space and Paulton Rovers for use of the Francis Suite and help with ticket sales.
Many great raffle prizes were kindly donated, including those amazing fruit baskets for all four performances courtesy of Arthur David. Thank you, everyone.
All performers have worked very hard since last October to turn out this great production, and have been well supported by a team of helpers behind the scenes.
Everyone involved has formed a close bond and had a great deal of fun while working on this production, lots of audience participation added to the enjoyment of children and adults alike.
As the younger members have been so enthusiastic about their performances, it has been proposed to form a twelve week Drama Club starting in April for eight to twelve-year-olds, covering all aspects of drama and working towards a play at the end of the course. Numbers are limited, so contact Clare Ivory through the PADs Facebook page for further details.
As you can see, PADS has hit the ground running with this amazing production so look out for further news of great things to come. New members always welcome.
