If you had some clumps of spring bulbs this year that had lucious leaves but no flowers there might be two possible reasons for this.

The first is that you did not plant the bulb deeply enough. The solution is either to dig the bulbs up and replant them at a deeper depth or to put a layer of mulch on top of them. Either way they should have more soil on top of them after you have finished than when you started.

The second is that this is a very well established clump of bulbs which has exhausted the nutrients in the soil around it. The solution here is to dig up the whole clump and divide it into smaller clumps. You can then replant these but further apart from each other or replant them in other places in the garden.

Some might even remain in pots permanently to form part of a ‘bulb table’ display that is currently trending on Instagram. I was late planting my bulbs this year but I hope to create a bulb display area in terracotta pots that I can add to each year.
