Clutton Horticultural Society is encouraging potential exhibitors to enter Clutton Flower Show in August by arranging a talk on Friday, 2nd June by past winners on the best way to show one’s flowers, vegetables and produce.
Champion growers, Aubrey Willcox and Gill Hazell, plus the experienced judge, Martyn Davis, will be giving visitors hints and ideas on the correct techniques to use to gain prizes in shows. An obvious tip is to follow the schedule exactly, so a class, stipulating five pansies, will be discounted if six pansies are entered. Other pitfalls will be explained and we hope gardeners who feel they are not good enough will pluck up the courage and enter this year.
This is the last of a series of talks in the summer organised by Clutton Horticultural Society, open to everyone – not just members. The last talk, by Christopher Bond, was a fascinating insight into the perils and delights of opening a garden for the NGS (National Garden Scheme).
Christopher has a wonderful garden, which has taken decades to satisfy him, and the photographs showed what dedication and hard work can achieve. The next series of talks begin again in the Autumn on 6th October and then the first Friday of each month in Clutton Village Hall, Venus Lane, BS39 5SP at 7.30 p.m. with everyone welcome. Entry includes light refreshments. Phone Organiser, Gill Hazell, for details on: 01761 452036.
