The fourteen events over two days are known as a Tetradecathlon, in effect, a Decathlon plus four more events.
Day One - 60m, Long Jump, 800m, Shot Put, 400m, High Jump, 3000m.
Day Two - 60m Hurdles, Pole Vault, 1500m, Weight Throw, 200m, Triple Jump and finishing with 5,000m. Points were awarded for performances in each individual event and age groups from U-18 to 75+.
Jerry enjoyed his first taste of overseas athletics competition in France, taking the Male 60-64 Bronze medal for the Tetradecathlon overall, finishing behind fellow Brit, Andrew Waddington, who took Gold in a new world record overall and Frenchman, Michel Serre. Jerry was delighted to break three of the Male 60–64 Tetradecathlon world individual event records in the 1500m, 3000m, and 5000m.
He was awarded the Best Performance trophy, which takes into account age, for the most points scored across all male age groups for the 3000m at the Championships.
Jerry said afterwards: “Replicating the events outdoors two days in a row in training, first thing in the morning most weeks, whatever the weather, made the competition itself indoors in the South of France a welcome release and I enjoyed every minute”.
