After his epic march along Hadrian’s Wall raising over £7,500, Paul Thorner is about to embark on his latest fundraising adventure.
Paul, a local Veteran from Paulton, carried a backpack weighing 21 kilograms containing five memorial bricks in September 2019 to raise awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
This time around, Paul will be on very different terrain on the South Coast of England. The fifty mile trek will take in most of the glorious Jurassic Coast.
Paul will be joining over 150 veterans, military service personnel and supporters, to help raise funds and awareness for the Rifles Regiment – Care for Casualties and PTSD.
Paul said: “Every year, we lose brothers and sisters who return from conflict, that struggle with their injuries and demons, suffer from the dreaded PTSD that can sadly end in them taking their life. When you ask a veteran when they were last feeling that way, in many cases the answer would be ‘every night’. The military trains you to go to war, but no one trains you to come home.”
He continued: “We’ve asked local companies to sponsor me for a minimum of £50, and I will carry a treasure chest with the name of that company written on it along the Jurassic Coast. We will also be featuring all the sponsors on banners that will feature on military vehicles as we walk the route and stop for photos.”
Paul finished by saying: “I understand that times have been difficult for many companies this year and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind support. Your pledge will make a big difference for those that gave their all.”
Sharon and Paul Thorner would like to thank the businesses that have already offered their support. These are: Paul Gunstone Mechanical Services, Beans & Machines, Beechcraft Ltd, Focus Interiors, Deepdale Motor Company, Radstock Building Design, Rotherwas Car & Light Commercial Ltd, Paddock Homes Ltd,
Stuart Bailey Roofing, Prince’s Meals On Wheels, Remac Ltd, Ford Fuel Oils, JA Pitt Hallatrow Ltd, TLC Bath, Avon Door & Lock, Derek Campbell Tyre & Exhaust Centre, Somerset WorkWear, Future Build South West, Mark Beard Painting & Decorating.
If you would like to sponsor the walk, then pledge a minimum of £50 to Paul’s Justgiving page, leaving your company name and you will be added to the list of sponsors.
