Members of St John’s Church, Midsomer Norton, Mothers’ Union have been very busy knitting all year for the Fish and Chip Babies in South Africa. So called because the only material to wrap new born babies in is newspaper.
The Mothers’ Union was founded by Mary Sumner 140 years ago. Her vision has
contributed to four million members worldwide in 83 countries. All members have the same vision to help families around the world through prayers and social action.
To celebrate the 140 years, a member of the St John’s branch set a challenge, to knit 140 items for the babies of South Africa by December.
Besides M.U. members, church members, friends and friends of friends, all got knitting or providing wool and to date, an amazing 262 items have been collected which
exceeded expectation and is a truly uplifting result.
Last week, knitters and friends came to view the most amazing colourful array of items in St John’s Church Hall over a cup of tea and biscuits.
All have now been delivered to St Benedict’s M.U. in Northampton and will be taken to a coordinator in the Peterborough Diocese who will deliver them personally to mothers in South Africa.
St John’s M.U. wishes to sincerely thank everyone who has supported this challenge including the Radstock Knitters and Rosemary and friends from Coleford. May these gifts pass on the love and prayers knitted into every stitch.
