TWO friends from Coleford are preparing to embark on a hike to Machu Picchu in support of Dorothy House Hospice Care.
The 10-day challenge, running from April 18 to 28, 2026, will see Amy West and Ellie Ellis covering more than 45 miles of mountainous terrain.
This means navigating high altitudes and remote paths through Peru’s Sacred Valley in order to raise funds for the end-of-life care provided by Dorothy House.
Their goal is to raise £12,000 in support of the hospice, which offers free specialist care to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses. As of July 1, they have raised £3,173.
Ellie said: “This trek is both a personal and physical challenge, but every step we take is for the patients and families who rely on the exceptional care and compassion of Dorothy House.
“We’re inspired by the hospice’s work, and this is our way of giving something back.”
To support their efforts, Amy and Ellie are calling on the community to donate unwanted gifts, attend fundraising events, and contribute directly via their donation page.
Amy said: “Whether it’s £5 or £50, every donation helps us move closer to our goal – and to the summit of Machu Picchu. We’re incredibly grateful for everyone’s support.”
To help them reach their fundraising goal, Amy and Ellie are hosting a series of creative community events – including a crockery smash, where participants can pay to take a swing at plates, cups, and bowls for a smashing good cause.
Amy added: “The crockery smash is all about fun, laughter, and a bit of stress relief – all while supporting a brilliant charity.”
Anyone who has an upcoming event is being encouraged to get in touch with their team, as are those who are interested who would like to donate a prize or purchase tickets for a ‘Summer Sorted’ raffle.
