A RESIDENT at Frome care home Rossetti House has taken a trip down memory lane.
Sue Conrad taught art and fashion design in schools and universities across the country including Frome College.
In honour of her lifelong love of fashion, the team at Rossetti House arranged for her to visit an exhibition of work by Zandra Rhodes’ work in Bath.
The visit was part of the Care UK’s Wishing Tree initiative, which encourages residents to put their dreams forward and allow them to reconnect with a past career or hobby or try something they’ve always wanted to do.
Visiting the exhibition allowed Sue to reminisce on times that she held her own exhibitions, where she became known for exploring themes of decay, solitude and the natural world through paint, printmaking and enamels.
She said: “I loved the exhibition and its intriguing and beautiful displays.

“I especially loved how nature inspired the creation of so many designs, something I’m passionate about in my own art projects.
“So often, starting with a simple stitch and no idea about the journey allowed me to translate simple textiles into colourful garments.”
Phil Vale, home manager at Rossetti House, added: “We were delighted to arrange for Sue to visit an exhibition that so closely aligned with her work as an artist throughout her life.
“Since moving into Rossetti House, Sue has delighted the entire team with her knowledge of textile design, as well as stories from her teaching years. She’s a real expert in all things fashion and arts, so we wanted to do something special for her.
“Moving into a care home doesn’t mean you should wave goodbye to your old hobbies, and that’s exactly why our Wishing Tree initiative exists. Watching Sue reconnect with her love for textiles as she wandered through the exhibit is what makes it all worth it.”
