Trustees of the Somerset and Dorset Railway Heritage Trust at Midsomer Norton Station undertook a walk of the station and railway line to consider the work that has been undertaken and to ensure any future expansion is future-proofed for generations to come.

Gail Coleshill, Trustee in charge of the gardens area, is clear that the Heritage Railway needs to continue to attract more visitors and give them an even more improved experience.

Gail said: “We want to make our facilities even better, and are looking at finding grants and increasing the income stream to fund future improvements.

“We already provide regular events with both steam and diesel locomotives which our visitors enjoy greatly. It is the view of the trust that improving our facilities will make the station environment even more attractive and enjoyable to visitors.

“The station was historically known for its award-winning gardens, and our volunteer gardeners are proud of that tradition. They have been working hard over winter and the ground is weed-free (almost), and the spring flowers are coming to make the site look lovely. Several of the restored buildings look good, but some are in urgent need of improvements.”

The Somerset and Dorset Railway Heritage Trust would like to invite local visitors to come and see the splendid work of the Volunteers at the Midsomer Norton station.

The next event is the Easter weekend, when the station is open with steam trains running on Sunday, 21st and Monday, 22nd April from 11 a.m. until 3.30 p.m.

There will also be an Easter Bunny hunt around the station.
