Ready or not, it is the week of the local Christmas light switch ons, with Westfield holding an event on Thursday evening at 6.30 pm at Elm Tree Avenue, and Midsomer Norton following at 7 pm from the Hollies Garden. Radstock’s takes place on Saturday from 4.50 pm at the Miners’ Wheel.

Midsomer Norton’s event will this year feature a Reindeer Duck Race which will start earlier at 6.30 pm. Go along and see if you can win a hamper in the race! Reindeer Ducks can be purchased beforehand by popping in to the Town Hall and seeing a member of staff or on the evening at the event.

Rumour has it that Father Christmas will also be visiting Midsomer Norton’s switch on event with presents for the children.

Enjoy hot chocolate and a mince pie and listen to the Midsomer Norton & Radstock Silver Band as the lights are switched on by WECA Mayor, Dan Norris.

There will also be face painting and an ice cream van!

Tickets are still available for the Children’s Christmas Party at the Somer Centre on Saturday, 4th December between 12 noon and 2 pm.

The event is free to all children who are resident in Midsomer Norton and are of Primary School age between 4 and 11 years old. Please contact the Town Council office for your child’s ticket on: 01761 418701 or email:

Over in Westfield, there will be mulled wine and mince pies, a visit from Father Christmas and music from the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver Band and Westfield Voices, together with Westfield Primary School choir.

Rev’d Ian Rousell from St Peter’s will give a reading.

In Radstock, the switch on will feature refreshments and carols around the tree, with an Advent Trail taking place in Radstock Museum beforehand. More on page 19.
