Work started on the installation of a new lift at Midsomer Norton Town Hall on Monday, 1st April as part of the Asset Transfer deal with Bath & North East Somerset Council.
Whilst in the long-term, the estimated 28,000 visitors to the Town Hall will be able to enjoy the benefits of a state-of-the-art £70,000 new lift, in the short-term there will be, by definition, some disruption as work commences.
Alex Davis, Trust Manager, said: “We are working closely with our regular community group room lettings customers to support them through the six-week installation process – which does include the two week Easter holiday. Film screenings will continue at the Community Cinema and the Paradis Trio with ‘Stair Marshals’ on-hand to assist.
“However, for anyone who is unable to manage the stairs, we apologise in advance that we will have no way of getting you up and down whilst the lift is being fitted. We will be notifying people at the time of booking, either online or at the weekday booking office.
“The old lift has given sterling service for almost thirty years, and it will be with some sadness that it will be going for scrap. However, knowing how hard the Community Trust and its volunteers work to keep the Town Hall running, it’s wonderful that they will be soon able to offer improved access to the building with the new lift – fit for the 21st century and Midsomer Norton’s busiest community building.”
