Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the Railway Rocks superhero fundraisers, with the local team busy planning the fifth year of the event, which takes place on the second May Bank Holiday Monday each year to mark Go Blue campaigner, Lucia Robinson’s birthday.

Lucia passed away in 2015 from the aggressive cancer, Astrocytoma, but despite her illness, the brave teen raised thousands of pounds for charities that support children with cancer.

Last year, a team of locals took part in a sponsored skydive, something Lucia always wanted to do, jumping in her memory and raising over £2,600. Totalled with the Railway Rocks event, which last year, was Star Wars themed (a favourite of Lucia’s), a total of nearly £4,000 went to the Go Blue charities.

This year’s event takes place on Sunday, 26th May from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Railway pub, Radstock. As ever, there has been plenty of local support – from prize donations to local bands giving up their time for free to play at the event.

There will be a raffle with lots of prizes, with Luckington Carnival Club taking care of the barbecue on the day. The event will be supported with live music from The One Tones, Punk with Attitude, Custyrd Pye, The Zero Hour, Parfanon and the Venezuelan Pig Rustlers.

As Lucia was a huge Marvel fan, the theme this year is Marvel superhero, with optional fancy dress. One of the organisers, Jo Cullen, told The Journal: “We believe there is a superhero in all of us! Everyone is welcome to come along, have a few drinks and enjoy the music.

In previous years we have been lucky, and we are thankful and appreciate the support we have had to have raised amazing amounts of money – we hope this year will be just as successful.

“We would also like to thank The Journal for your support over the past five years; writing about our events and fundraising.”

So, grab your cape and head on down to the Railway this Bank Holiday Monday, to help this annual fundraiser which continues Lucia’s amazing work.
