It was the year that saw the end of the First World War and the invention of traffic lights.
Hair dryers were not yet on the market. 1918 was also the year Cora Bryant was born.
The great-great-grandmother was born Cora Smith in Yorkshire, but made her home in Midsomer Norton after her marriage to husband, Ronald Bryant, in 1945.
Cora, who now lives in Greenacres, a Midsomer Norton-based Extra Care facility run by Sirona Care and Health, celebrated her century surrounded by family and friends, who had made a special cake and bunting with her name written upon it. She has a daughter, Margaret, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Cora says she puts her long life down to “having a lovely daughter and being with lots of lovely people”.
