Metal miners have started to appear around North Somerset in the area of coal mines of the past.

The first three were installed last week, two in Coleford and one in Holcombe.

Many more will be seen near the sites of the old collieries around the area, they will also have a small notice board positioned near them giving brief details of the coal mine.

The Somerset Miners Welfare Trust are indebted to Dave and Kate Speed, the manufacturers and installers of the miners, it was them that came up with design when the trustees approached them some nine months ago.

This is a massive project the Miners Trust has undertaken, they think it is a wonderful way of keeping the memories alive of those very brave women, boys and men who worked for hundreds of yards underground in difficult conditions in the Somerset Coal Field.

Keep your eyes open there are lots more to come.
