The Leader of the Conservative Group on B&NES Council has urged residents to continue to do all they can to stop the spread of COVID-19, following the announcement of a third national lockdown.

The Prime Minister last night announced that England was to return to lockdown, requiring people to stay at home for all but a handful of reasons.

Cllr Paul Myers, Leader of the Conservative Group on Bath and North East Somerset Council, said: “It is clear that the new strain of COVID-19 is spreading at an alarming speed and that, as a result, we need to do more to bring it under control.

“Now more than ever, we must pull together following the new rules. The weeks ahead will be tough, but with positive news announced this week around the rollout of the vaccination programme, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“Residents in B&NES have made a great many sacrifices in the last year and I thank everybody for all they’ve done to limit the spread of the virus. We cannot give up now, however. We must continue to be vigilant and follow the rules if we are to beat this horrible virus.”
