PEOPLE are being given an opportunity to learn more about dementia through a free information workshop.
Dementia Friendly Peasedown is a charity run by the Peasedown Community Trust, who organise regular sessions for the public to take part in to help raise awareness about dementia.
The workshop that Dementia Friendly Peasedown will hold at St John’s Church, Church Road on Monday, October 27 at 6pm. Attendance is free for all, while refreshments will be available for guests.
Statistics from the charity suggest that there are 900,000 people with dementia in the UK, with the number set to rise to over one-million by the end of 2025. This figure is expected to rise to two-million by 2050.
They also say that one in six people over the age of 80 have dementia, and that 70 per cent of people in care homes have dementia or severe memory problems.
Nathan Hartley, coordinator of the Dementia Friendly Peasedown initiative, said: “There are currently 900,000 people in the UK living with dementia, and that figure is set to rise to two-million by 2050.
“One in four people will be affected by dementia in their lifetimes, which is why it’s important to work with individuals and their families to try and make life much easier for those live with it.
“The Peasedown Community Trust, the charity that runs the initiative, wants to engage with as many people as possible over the next year to make them aware of dementia, and how we as a community can support those who live with it.
“As well as hosting these dementia information workshops, every May we organise B&NES’ only Dementia Awareness Conference – keeping residents informed of what services are available locally.”
