Proposals made by NHS bosses about the continued efficiency of the health service could see hospital services in nearly two thirds of England scaled back or cut, according to a BBC report.
The proposals have been made as part of a national incentive to transform the health service and save money across 44 different areas, with the government wanting community care to be higher on the agenda.
According to the analysis done by the BBC on the proposals, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire will have a funding gap of £290 million by 2020-21 if nothing is done.
Currently, there are no plans for a merger of the three Trusts, mostly due to the distance between them, but the possibility of them sharing resources and workers has been considered. The report claims that there will be a focus on preventative care to help ease pressures and make savings.
