Metro Mayor Dan Norris said: "The Government has lost control of public health and lost public trust. The Prime Minister let a new variant into the country, let cases soar, and has left us with the highest death toll in Europe and the greatest hit to any major economy. It simply is not good every and the people of the West of England who have sacrificed so much, deserve better."
Mr Norris praised the many local businesses and organisations "doing the right thing" and said the response to his mask wearing poster campaign has been strong.
He continued: "The Government should keep mandatory mask wearing on public transport and ensure workers continue to work flexibly if they can. Because they are abrogating responsibility we are all going to have to step up."
