The Driving Out Hunger campaign aims to reach drivers across the South West who can spare a couple of days every month to get food to people who need it most. FareShare South West joins the dots between surplus food and hunger. Last year, their van crews helped redistribute 2041 tonnes of good quality surplus food – enough for 4,860, 844 meals - to more than 400 different frontline charities.
Right now, the need has never been greater. The UK produces more than three million tonnes of surplus food each year but last month, a million adults across the UK reported going without meals for a full day because they couldn’t afford to buy food.
To meet this need, FareShare South West is expanding its operations this summer and launching new van routes across the region.
