To celebrate Book Lovers’ Day, volunteers from the Hub Library in Paulton, visited Bloomfield Care Home to share their love of books with the residents.

Each of the volunteers shared readings of their choice. These included a wide range of topics, from poetry and prose to history. Readings were selected from Cider with Rosie, How to survive life’s smaller challenges, Silas Marner, by George Eliot, poetry from Pam Ayres, The Last Fighting Tommy, Never hit a jellyfish with a spade and Hamnet, by Maggie O’Farrell.

The residents enjoyed the readings and subsequently requested that the group return for more sessions.

Pride of place went to the youngest volunteer, Ollie Paul, aged 13, who told the group all about the unusual laws that still exist today. Ollie commented: “It was nice to be reading to the residents.” They greatly appreciated a young person like Ollie giving up his time to read to them.

Organised by Paulton Parish Council, the aim is to foster closer links between the Hub Library and Bloomfield Care Home. Another session will be planned in the near future.
