At Messy Church, St John’s Church, Chilcompton, this month, we learnt about the importance of soil and the creatures that live in it.

There were squeals of laughter as we studied worms using magnifying glasses. We watched them tunnel in the soil as they did their job of helping increase the amount of air and water it contained.

Other activities this month included decorating pots that we then filled with cress; using our handprints to make lilies and painting a giant colour by number Jigsaw puzzle, that we then used as a wall display. Our sewing talents were used to make some amazing lavender bags for Mother’s Day.

Making the most of the break in the rain, we put our gardening skills to good use and planted flowers to brighten up the church path-way.

At the end of the afternoon, we learnt about the different

types of soil in the story of the parable of the sower. We then had sausages for tea and to the children’s delight, we ate the edible dirt pots, complete with jelly worms, that we had made earlier for dessert. A great time was had by all!

Messy Church is different every time; friendly and welcoming, with something for everyone. Why not find out just how friendly we are by joining us on Sunday, 29th March at 3 p.m. or for a free Easter Egg Hunt at Hot Cross Fun on Wednesday, 8th April, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
