Radstock Museum has linked up with the Midsomer Norton and Radstock branch of The Royal British Legion to provide a drop-in centre for veterans, their families and for people who wish to find out more about the role of The Royal British Legion.
Many people only become aware of the Legion in November, during the annual Poppy Appeal, but the work of the charity happens all year round, helping current and past members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families. They support serving and ex-serving personnel all year round, every day of the week. This can be accessed after seven days of service and continues through life; long after service is over.
The Legion remembers those who lost their lives on active service in all conflicts, from the beginning of the First World War right up to the present day. It also remembers all those who have served and their families.
Radstock’s drop-in centre will officially open on Monday, 9th March on every second Monday and every fourth Friday of the month. (Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. to 12 noon).
The aim of the centre is to provide a point of contact for families and individuals who require support, and also for anyone wishing to volunteer to assist the Branch, not just during the Poppy Appeal, but all year round.
People who feel they may wish to join the Branch are not required to have served in HM Forces, just to have a desire to help others. Local volunteers make an incredible difference to the Armed Forces community, so whatever time you can give, there are opportunities for you to get involved.
