On Thursday evening, almost three hundred people turned up for the lighting of the Town’s Jubilee Beacon at Midsomer Norton Rugby Club. Local families came together, creating a lovely atmosphere whilst enjoying music and balloons. Mayor Lynda Robertson lit the town’s beacon at 9.45pm after piper Billy Colvin had started the ceremony.
On Friday, the Town Park finally got its ‘big gig’ as music lovers of all ages came out to enjoy a wealth of local acts. A fantastic crowd turned out for the Midsomer Norton Jubilee Music Festival held in the Town Park. Lynda Robertson opened the event at 1.30pm with local musician James Harriman first on, introduced by the day’s compere, Martyn Plant.
The crowd continued to fill the huge amphitheater as ‘All You Need is the Beatles’ reeled off well known hits from the Fab Four’s back catalogue.
After a stirring performance from The Davenports, the heavens opened sending the crowds to seek cover in the surrounding gazebos while Al ‘O Kane and the Young Martyrs performed.
In the evening Verdisa and The Honkytonks, wrapped up an amazing day with a fittingly joyous conclusion.
The weekend saw crowds attend the Railway Station for food, entertainment and free train rides and on Sunday, a family fun day at the Cricket Club brought things to a close. A huge thanks goes to the Town Council and Community Trust for sponsoring and organising the weekend, as well as all the other local organisations who organised and volunteered including Midsomer Norton Rugby Club, Midsomer Norton Cricket Club, Somer Valley FM and the Somerset & Dorset Railway Heritage Trust.
