The Radstock Knitters are making a poppy wreath and have so far created nearly 1,500 poppies, but more are needed to cover a 36 inch inner tube of tractor tyre. The group would like to say thank you to Farmborough tyres, for kindly donating and inflating the tyre and are now looking for knitted strips of earthy colours (green, brown and grey) which will go around the tyre, enabling the poppies to be attached.

The wreath will then hopefully be placed on the Miners’ wheel in Radstock, once approved by the Town Council.

The knitters’ next meeting is on Saturday, 29th October and we will be putting the wreath together ready for the Sunday memorial service on 13th November.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all my members for without them, none of the projects would have been completed. A big thank you to everyone who has knitted for us and donated to the group over the years. It is very much appreciated.

“It is also six years this month since the group began. It is a friendly group and we welcome knitters of all abilities. We will also happily teach people how to knit, if they would like to learn,” said Jenny.

Other ongoing projects the knitters currently have are: blankets for the Bath Cats’ and Dogs’ Home, coats for Mutts with Friends, bed capes/coats and bed socks for the RUH, baby and toddler jumpers/cardis and baby blankets for Help Me To Help Gambia and Fish and Chips Babies, small beanie hats for Innocent smoothie drinks for Age UK, poppies for the wreath and a Christmas Nativity scene for the Big Local Radstock and Westfield community group.
