Timsbury resident Terry Fisher has written a book about the history of his local area, entitled ‘Amesbury and Timsbury: Just a Moment in Time and Memories Past 1922-2016.’
After purchasing a computer for his young grandsons, Terry was inspired to begin writing by the passing of his mother, and began to type up the memories she had told him of the local area whilst she was growing up.
The work naturally progressed to include Terry’s own memories of Amesbury and Timsbury, having lived and worked there his entire life.
Terry said: “I was born at Amesbury, a small hamlet to the west of Timsbury in 1933, and have recorded my memories from an early age, and also that of my mother some ten years earlier, when there were thirteen houses and about seventy people who lived there at the time. The book covers nearly 100 years of history, starting in the 1920s, and is full of old photographs.
Terry continued: “Having published this book recording over eighty years of memories, I have had a request for a copy from New Zealand, which has been delivered by hand by someone living in Timsbury. I also had requests from Scotland, Bedford, and two of the books have gone to America.
“After writing this book, I decided to raise money for the RUH Forever Friends cancer care fund, with all proceeds from sales going to the fund.
“So far the book has raised £1,600, and I hope to achieve £2,000 by Christmas with this latest print run. I would like to thank everyone for their support so far.”
The book is available to purchase from Health and More, High Street and Connie’s Tea Shop, The Square, Timsbury.
