In October, Radstock resident, Jean Meredith and her husband completed the Simplyhealth Great South Run in Southsea, raising £600.52 for Guide Dogs for the Blind and Radstock Methodist Chapel.
Keen runners Jean and her husband, are no strangers to lengthy charity runs, raising money for different groups and causes each time.
This year, running the Great South Run for the ninth time, they decided to raise funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind Midsomer Norton and Frome branch, and for flooring refurbishments for the Radstock Methodist Chapel.
Celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary, Jean ran the entire distance in marital gear, and even found some volunteer bridesmaids along the way. Jean said: “I’d just like to say a huge thank you to all my customers and friends for their continued support.”
The cheque was presented on 6th December to Mike Martin, Treasurer of Radstock Methodist Chapel, and Lis Rich, a founding member of the Midsomer Norton and Frome branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind. Lis’ husband, Michael, Chair of the branch, said: “The average cost of maintaining a guide dog from birth to retirement is £55,000. We are very grateful for all the funding and help we can get.”
In July, Sainsbury’s Midsomer Norton chose Guide Dogs for the Blind to be their Charity of the Year.
