The Midsomer Norton RUH Fundraising Group celebrated a fantastic three years of fundraising for The Forever Friends Appeal’s RUH Cancer Care Campaign, by giving a gift of £5,000 to the cause.

The inspirational group have been affected by cancer in many different ways, whether suffering themselves or experiencing it through a family member or friend. From these experiences, the group have come together to help raise money for a new Cancer Centre at the RUH, which will transform treatment for patients and their families for years to come.

So far, they have raised an amazing £5,279 for The Forever Friends Appeal through a range of different fundraising events and activities, including bucket collections at the Midsomer Norton Carnival, fair stalls and even toy hamster race nights.

One of the group’s most successful activities for fundraising is Supermarket Spinathons, which, in the past, have been held both at Tesco and Radco. For this event, volunteers have completed hour-long spinning slots throughout the day and through their effort and determination, have raised over £3,000.

Debbie Saffin, from the local fundraising group, said: “It’s been an absolute honour to be part of such an enthusiastic and friendly bunch of people who enjoy raising funds for such a worthwhile cause.

“Cancer is such a big part of our lives now, with research suggesting that one in two people will be affected. It’s truly a wonderful way to do something positive to help those in the future and to remember those we have lost.

“I’m really excited about what amazing things we will achieve in the future.”

The Midsomer Norton RUH Fundraising Group meets monthly and are always looking for volunteers to join them and help with the cause.

inspirational set of people, who are all equally committed to fundraising for the new cancer centre and have fun doing it, too. They all have their individual reasons for giving back to the RUH, and are keen to continue to raise as much money as they can to make the centre the best it can be for patients, their families and for generations to come.”
