Fifteen-year-old George West, a Norton Hill student who currently plays rugby for Midsomer Norton Rugby Club, has been selected by the RFU to become a Young Rugby Ambassador.
The Young Rugby Ambassador programme gives teens the chance to make a difference at their local club and to help get more people enjoying the game in the lead-up to the Rugby World Cup.
So far in his new role, George has attended a number of local primary schools and is hoping to visit more during September to promote and communicate the latest news from the Rugby World Cup, as well as to lead pupils in tag rugby games and to get more of them involved with the club in Midsomer Norton.
He has also organised a Family Tag Fest at Midsomer Norton Rugby Club, to help get local families involved in the sport. The event, taking place on 5th September from 10.30 a.m. allows teams of seven, which must contain at least one female and one child, free entry to take part in tag rugby games. There will also be a bar, BBQ, and a bouncy castle, as well as the opportunity to catch the pre match warm-up game between England and Ireland, which starts at 2.30 p.m. This is all followed by a disco in the evening.
Anyone is welcome to join the event and anyone interested in entering a team, should contact George either via Midsomer Norton Rugby Club, by phoning: 07794 993012 or by email at: [email protected]
