Residents who may be for or against the installation of four speed tables on Orchard Way, Peasedown St John, at a cost of around £40,000, have until 25th February to make their views known.

The notice, dated 4th February, was discussed at the Parish Council meeting last month, with Councillors agreeing by a majority vote that they could not support the scheme. B&NES Council has said that the money cannot be spent elsewhere in the village, as it has been approved specifically for areas where there is non-compliance with 20 mph zones.

Concerns raised include the cost and potential waste of money on an ineffective highways scheme, insufficient evidence that it will make the road safer than it already is, the impact of noise and environment, as vehicles brake and accelerate and that policing of the route would be more effective.

A local bus company has also expressed its concern, stating wear and tear on vehicles, extra cost in uneconomical driving and potential injury and uncomfortable travelling conditions for passengers and drivers, who would have to use the route several times a day.

A copy of the plan can be viewed at the Hollies, Midsomer Norton or the One Stop Shop at Manvers Street, Bath. Anyone with comments should email: [email protected] quoting the title of the scheme, ‘Construction of Raised Speed Tables – Urban 20 mph Zones’, the reference, PEV11533/AC, adding Peasedown St John, Orchard Way.
