Akito Scissors has launched a campaign to help raise £56,000 towards revolutionary Epidural Stimulation treatment for local hair stylist, Mitch Chalmers. In just a short time, £615 has been raised.

Mitch was left paralysed from the waist down following a motocross accident in 2014 at the age of 22.

Through sheer determination, he has since re-trained and pursued his dream of becoming a hairdresser and with the aid of a stand up wheelchair, Mitch now works full-time as a stylist at James Christopher Hairdressing in Midsomer Norton.

To date, Epidural Stimulation is the most advanced treatment for Spinal Cord Injuries available. It consists of a surgical implant in the spinal cord, made up of two components – a neurostimulator and a sixteen plate lead electrode array. The implant applies a continuous electrical current to the electrode, so that compromised nerve signals that originate in the brain will be amplified and redirected to the spinal cord tissue below the injury level, allowing the possibility of regaining movement.

Akito Scissors are planning a number of fundraising events throughout 2019 for Mitch and would welcome fellow hairdressers and barbers to get involved. To start off the campaign, Ben Brown has kindly donated his original pair of Akito F-2 black 5” scissors to the campaign. Ben purchased his scissors in 2017, and has since used them in his educational videos where they have been viewed worldwide an amazing four million times! These famous scissors will be auctioned on Sunday, 3rd February, between 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. through Twitter @Akitoscissors.
