It's International Museum Day this weekend, and what better way to pay homage than to check out one of the many amazing museums in Bath and North East Somerset?

The event on Saturday 18 May aims to raise awareness of how vital museums are for celebrating, restoring and preserving pieces of history and local culture. It's an opportunity to explore the West’s most impressive buildings right on locals’ doorstep, according to Mayor Dan Norris, who runs the West of England Love Local campaign.

Mayor Dan Norris said: “This is such a great way for locals to explore the literally dozens of brilliant local attractions we have right on our doorstep, as well as to find out more about the West of England and its rich heritage.

“So whether it's stepping into the world of Mary Shelley at the House of Frankenstein, or finding out about the history of coal mining at Radstock Museum, there really is something for everyone in our neck of the woods. Let’s get out there and discover all those amazing museums that make the West so special.”

Mayor Dan Norris is backing Bath and North East Somerset’s museums through his £140,000 mayoral fund designed to support them and other local attractions across the region.
