Last night's Town Council meeting saw a few heated debates as Councillors met for the first time to discuss policies and procedures. Appointments were also made at the meeting in The Hollies which saw Councillor Martyn Plant elected as Deputy Mayor, alongside newly elected Mayor, Gordon Mackay.

Councillor Martyn Plant told spoke to The Journal about becoming Deputy Mayor: "I am delighted and honoured to assume the post of Deputy Mayor on Midsomer Norton Town Council.

"I look forward to working with Mayor Gordon Mackay, who has worked so hard for the town, for the benefit and improvement of Midsomer Norton.
