Calling all petrolheads! The Norton Radstock Classic Vehicle Club (NRCVC) has announced the date for their annual classic car and bike meet at Camerton. The event attracts interest from far and wide, and garners up to six hundred classic cars and bikes.

Anthony, from the neighbouring interest group ‘Chew Valley Classic Car and Bike Meet’, explains what constitutes as a classic car, “Most classic car clubs accept that a car of twenty five years or older becomes a classic. At forty years it becomes historic, which allows you to become tax and MOT exempt”.

“We try not to allow cars post-2000 as that’s when the registration plates changed”.

There are two classic car groups for enthusiasts to get involved with in the locality. The Norton Radstock Classic Vehicle Club, who are currently touring the Isle of Wight with a fleet of around eighteen vehicles, meet up weekly at the Radstock Working Mens Club. The meetings commence every second Thursday of each month at 8pm. The club currently have around one hundred and twenty members who own classic vehicles from 1930 to 1985. There’s lots going on, and club members often meet for other activities as well, including skittles night.

The Chew Valley Classic Car and Bike Meet is held every Wednesday from 6pm to 9pm at Chew Valley Animal Park, from April to September.

Members from both chapters are looking forward to the event at Camerton, which is an ‘arrive and drive’ style event - meaning attendees are welcome to come and go as they please. There are no set times, attendees can turn up when they like and browse the impressive classics on show.

Everyone is welcome, though modern cars will have a separate car park to those bringing the classics. Rest assured, volunteers are on hand to show you where to go with greeters at the entrance.

Held at Camerton Hall, the annual event will have different stalls for punters to visit, as well as food and ice cream vendors on hand.

Norton Radstock CVC will also be on hand serving teas, coffees and savouries in the hall. All proceeds raised will go towards funding the event for the next year.

Anthony talks us through some of the cars that have been in attendance over the years, “There were some 1907 steam cars that turned up, we’ve had Green Goddesses, we’ve had everything from Minis through to classic Rolls Royces passing through. There’s a very wide range of vehicles that show up”.
