Signs of an impending Autumn are in the air, and the Norton Radstock Photographic Society is looking forward to resuming weekly Zoom meetings and the planned programme from 2nd September.

The Thursday evening walk last week was the last for a while, although there is still a demand for afternoon walks on a Wednesday when possible, from club members free of work commitments.

Janice Cuer led a group of eight walkers with cameras on a leisurely stroll from the middle of Midsomer Norton through the town park, that finished for many with a refreshment break at Wetherspoons, and some reminiscing about when it was a cinema way back.

Diverted through the skatepark by Jenny Short, who can never miss an opportunity for an action shot, we lingered for a while as skateboarders, scooters and mountain bikers strutted their stuff, and the youngsters clamoured for a photoshoot.

The Town Park is an absolute delight, and one of which the Town Council can be proud. Such a lovely open space with well-designed areas where the use of the local stone suggests an auditorium and provides steps to higher pastures!

The season is definitely turning, and there were opportunities by the stream for close-ups of flora and fauna as well as the odd dragonfly, and plenty of time to chat as well as take the odd break on a well-positioned bench or two as others caught up. We were not the only ones enjoying the space – joggers, cyclists and dog walkers abound here, and overhead, balloonists were making the most of the late summer calm as the sun began to sink and we all struggled to place them on the rule of thirds!

Jill, Pamela, Diana, Dan and Bill were missing this week, for various reasons, and sadly our possible new member did not make the meet-up as we had anticipated, but perhaps next time.

We are all beginning to think of the photos to use next week as we “Show our Own” on Zoom – which to put forward the following week for the September Open Competition, and which to savour for the evening when we show off what the summer walks have produced. There is much to look forward to between now and Christmas!
