MILTON LODGE , Old Bristol Road, Wells BA5 3AQ open on Sunday 9 May from 2pm – closing time is 5pm

Architectural terraces have been transformed from sloping land with a profusion of plants capitalising on views of Wells Cathedral and the Vale of Avalon. This is a Grade II terraced garden was restored to its former glory by the current owner's parents who moved here in 1960. The orchard has been replaced with a collection of remarkable ornamental trees. The herbaceous borders and blooming roses, including Gertrude Jekyll, flourish next to vast well tended lawns. Today, within the garden is a peaceful, serene and relaxing atmosphere following the ravages of two World Wars. Cross the Old Bristol Rd to a 7 acre woodland garden, The Combe, a natural peaceful contrast to formal garden of Milton Lodge.

Light refreshments available outside, weather permitting, to add to the ambience of this charming garden.

Plants, grown on site, are for sale. Coach parties accepted. Due to slopes and differing levels this garden is unsuitable for wheelchairs or those with limited mobility.

Nevertheless for this garden, this is not essential, you can just turn up and pay on the day.

Admission for adults £5.Children under 16yrs old and accompanied by an adult get free entry.
