Unit 14 is a modern and versatile space conveniently located opposite the free all-day car park on South Road. It is now available to hire for a range of uses - including workshops, training, meetings, performances and more.
The evening began with a screening of a new short film, which has been created by Midsomer Norton’s Cultural Consortium, in collaboration with filmmaker, Howard Vause and children from Midsomer Norton Primary School. The film celebrates four ‘High Street heroes’ who have made significant contributions to their communities.
After a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Mayor, there was a showcase from Midsomer Norton Arts Festival, including a display of work made by local children in anticipation of the Platinum Jubilee.
The striking mural on the building’s exterior was designed and created by muralist Molly Mural and sign-writer Tozer, in collaboration with Upfest and the Cultural Consortium. The colours and imagery are designed to showcase the town’s rich heritage from medieval to modern times.
Community Trust Engagement Coordinator, Beth Whalley, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to share Unit 14 with the town. It’s a welcoming and warm space which can be configured for lots of different uses, and has great kitchen facilities as well as a fabulous coffee shop two doors down. We can’t wait to welcome all sorts of people through its doors.”
The Unit 14 project has been funded from Bath & North East Somerset Council’s allocation of the European Union’s Welcome Back High Streets Fund (2021-22), the West of England Combined Authority’s Infrastructure Fund and Historic England’s Heritage Action Zone funding.
