A brand new initiative to support older and disabled people has been launched in Peasedown St John.

Those struggling with mobility problems no longer have to worry about how they will get to the local shops, or whether they will be able to visit friends and family, thanks to the introduction of the village’s first mobility scooter scheme.

Set up by Peasedown St John Residents’ Association, the scheme enables users to pay a small daily fee, in return for a full day’s scooter use.

Richard Clarke, Vice-Chair of Peasedown St John Residents’ Association, said: “We are pleased to be launching this brand new initiative for people living in Peasedown St John and beyond.

“So often you hear about older people and those with disabilities, being stuck at home because they can’t get out and about. We want to help ensure that people

have their mobility and independence.”

Nathan Hartley, who coordinates the Association’s fundraising appeals, said: “We are in a position to launch this new mobility scooter scheme at such a low daily rate thanks to the support of our local councillors, Karen Walker and Sarah Bevan, and the resident who kindly donated the scooter. Previous successful fundraising appeals have meant that we can keep all of our other costs low, helping especially those out of work and those on low incomes.”
