Following a competition, a new contract for the town’s Street Marshal service has been awarded to RS Security Ltd by Midsomer Norton Town Council. The company have been delivering this service for the last three years, having won the tender in 2015.

The Town Council continues to invest in the town to ensure that people can enjoy a safe weekend evening, and the continuing Marshal services – combined with the volunteer Street Pastors – have contributed to reduced anti-social behaviour and crime in and around the High Street.

Town Mayor, Cllr Paul Myers (Conservative, Midsomer Norton Redfield) welcomed the appointment: “We have worked very successfully in partnership with RS Security, who have delivered a very good service in the past three and a half years. Since we started the Street Marshal service with a trial in 2012, we have seen the High Street become a safer and more welcoming place and we look forward to carrying on to work with RS Security, the Street Pastors and the Police to continue that improvement.”

The Town Council has also agreed to set up a quarterly Public Safety meeting for stakeholder groups to monitor and respond to safety and anti-social behaviour issues across the whole town that concern people, as well as the night time economy in and around the High Street. Plans were approved at its meeting on 5th March to launch this new group, which will be coordinated by the Town Council and be formed by a number of agencies and groups involved with the town’s safety.
