An exciting new year of cinema begins at Midsomer Norton Town Hall on Saturday, 28th January, with a fantastic double bill. First up is The Secret Life of Pets at 2.30 p.m., followed by I, Daniel Blake at 7.30 p.m.
The Secret Life of Pets is a smash-hit animated family comedy that follows Max – voiced by superstar comic Louis C.K., a spoiled terrier in New York, until his owner adopts Duke, a giant and unruly canine.
After a mishap sees them on a truck bound for the pound, they join forces with a rebellious bunny, Snowball and his gang of abandoned pets on a mission against the humans who’ve done them wrong.
Then in the evening, do not miss your chance to catch Ken Loach’s powerful drama I, Daniel Blake on the big screen. Winner of the prestigious Palm D’Or, the highest honour on offer at the Cannes Film Festival, the film is both inspiring and heartbreaking.
Comedian, Dave Johns, makes an acclaimed big screen debut as Daniel, the 59-year-old joiner from Newcastle, who, for the first time ever, needs help from the State. He crosses paths with a single mother, Katie, and her two young children, whose only chance to escape a one-roomed homeless hostel in London has been to accept a move to a city she doesn’t know, some 300 miles away. Stranded, together they must fight injustice and bureaucracy to survive.
The Midsomer Norton Community Trust continues to grow in its mission to bring affordable cinema to Midsomer Norton, attracting 2,000 attendees in the last twelve months, with upcoming screenings including Finding Dory and Bridget Jones’s Baby. All screenings feature cinema quality HD projection on the big screen with full surround sound and comfy cinema seating.
Refreshments are available at all screenings from the fully licenced Sarah Ann Bar.
