Norton Hill students in Years 10-13 are working incredibly hard this week to prepare for the first live performance in over two years, in the brand new Norton Hill Arts Theatre.
Set in Depression-era New York, Guys and Dolls follows the lives of two big city gamblers and the women who love them. It tells the overlapping stories of high-roller Sky Masterson (L. Fox) who falls in love with mission worker Sarah Brown (B.Lamont & R.Russell), and lovable rapscallion Nathan Detroit(W. Easton), engaged for 14 years to Miss Adelaide (T. Bartlett & F. Gaynor), a headliner at the Hot Box Club. Nathan runs a famous floating crap game, and an ongoing plot line involves his quest for a safe place for the game as Adelaide continues her quest to convince him to marry her. Meanwhile, Sarah, mistakenly believing that Sky set up an illegal game at the mission, tries to fight her affection for the charismatic crapshooter.
Staff and students are delighted to be welcoming their first live audience this week into the state of the art multi-functional performance space. After two years of disruption, what we all need is some escapism and jazz hands - and ‘Guys and Dolls’ certainly has this in spades!
Performances take place on Wednesday 16th, Thursday 17th and Friday 18th March at 7pm. Tickets are available in advance from: www.yourboxoffice.co.uk.
After a two year gap in school productions (the last piece was ‘Our Country’s Good’ in February 2020) Norton Hill School is delighted to be putting on full scale productions again.
Students are delighted to be performing in the new, purpose built theatre, which is a multi-function performance space with evening entrance ‘foyer’. The original plan for the theatre was made over a decade ago. So, after a long wait we are thrilled to have state of the art technical equipment in a spacious and acoustically designed space.
In the daytime, during lessons, the whole space can be divided into two roomy drama and dance studios. For evening performances the dividing doors can be opened and a performance of any type can take place: drama, dance, music concerts and art exhibitions.
