THE MP for Frome and East Somerset has welcomed Somerset Council’s announcement of new safety measures on the A361 Frome bypass.
Anna Sabine described the announcement as “a great start” in improving safety on a stretch of road that has long caused concern.
Somerset Council confirmed plans to reduce the speed limit to 50mph on the section of the A361 near the junction that has seen a significant number of accidents. The plans also include improved visibility measures and road resurfacing works.
Ms Sabine said: “Improving safety on the A361 was the first issue I raised when elected, because so many local people told me how worried they were about this stretch of road. Too many families have experienced accidents or near misses here, and action has been needed for a long time.”
She welcomed the reduction in the speed limit as a positive and practical first step.
She added: “Reducing the speed limit to 50mph near the junction is a sensible move that will help make this road safer. Alongside improved visibility and resurfacing works, this represents a great start in addressing the risks that drivers have faced for years.”
The improvements are expected to be delivered as part of Somerset Council’s ongoing highways and road safety programme.
