AN IDYLLIC scene, perhaps? Does it still look like this today? This is a walk well frequented by those in the know. Are you one of them and do you recognise it? Contact the editor at [email protected] if you do, or even if you would like a guess.

December's mystery photograph showed three well laden, open-topped, omnibuses crowded with people, ready for a day out.
This photo is quite well known in Bishop Sutton, as it is in Steve Ward's history of the school and its village, “Don't learn my son no sums.”
It shows the Methodist Sunday School gathering near the Red Lion for its annual outing. Before World War 1, this would have been a ride in a farm cart to a local field for sports and picnic tea, but the caption to this postcard reads “Bishop Sutton Wesleyan Sunday School 4th Annual Outing to Weston-super-Mare July 1, 1919”. The whole family would often go, for a rare opportunity to see the sea.
The Harptrees History Society is always interested in old pictures of people, places and events in the Chew Valley and Wrington area. If you have any you would like to share, email [email protected]
