St Julian’s Church School in Wellow has more reasons to celebrate, thanks to the success of their mountain bike team.

The School Mountain Bike Regional Competitions take place every year, and allow children to participate in an active day of cycling over various terrains. School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “We were very proud of our mountain bike team, who recently represented the school at the regional sports finals.

“Mali, Zac, Charlotte and Evelyn were exceptional ambassadors for St Julian’s, demonstrating determination and sportsmanship alongside some very clever tactics!”

The school came fourth overall, with only three seconds separating the top four teams, but finished first against all the other primary schools from Bath & North East Somerset.

Mountain biking is a sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, using specially designed bikes. It can be broken down into multiple categories: cross country, trail riding, downhill, freeride and dirt jumping. “This sport requires endurance, core strength and balance, bike handling skills, and self-reliance,” added Ruth.
