The July session of Old Down Jazz returns to its normal first Friday of each month and on this occasion, The New Delta Jazz Band hope to welcome a couple of special guests. Trumpet player, Tim Newman, who leads his own Celebration Jazz Band, will be leading the band and hopes to bring with him his old friend, piano player, Ray Smith.
The New Delta Band normally plays without a piano, but always enjoy the opportunity of adding one. Ray Smith has played with many of the great British jazz musicians of the last sixty years, but it is for his long association with the late, great, Ken Colyer, that he is best remembered. Clive Johnson will be on assorted reeds, Pete Middleton on trombone, Roger Bonsall on banjo, drummer, Colin Bushell and bassist, Brian Hooper complete the seven-piece line-up.
So, for a special session of traditional jazz in the New Orleans style, why not come along to The Old Down Inn at Emborough (on the A37) near Chilcompton, where The New Delta Jazz Band will make you very welcome. The music will start at 8.30 p.m. There will be the usual raffle and a small admission charge.
